Mark Andrew Bossi

Major (retired) Mark Andrew Bossi, CD died suddenly on June 24th, 2026 in his 69th year at his Toronto home. He was born on 24 October 1957 to George E. Bossi (1924-2005) and Barbara (nee Birnie, 1925-2014) of Scarborough. Mark grew up in Scarborough and studied at Wexford Collegiate and Victoria College UofT (BSc 2020).

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his son Andrew (with Linda Popp of Guelph),  brothers Paul and Kevin (Michele), nephews Alex, Nicholas (Nick), and William, and his extended family. He leaves behind many friends, currently-serving military, veterans, those in veteran-supporting organizations across Ontario and beyond. He is also remembered fondly by those in his community with whom he interacted regularly.

Mark  was immensely proud to serve this country in the 48th Highlanders uniform for 40 years (from 27 Sep 1977 to 24 Oct 2017). His army reservist career, centered predominantly in Toronto (at his unit, CF Command and Staff College, district/brigade battle school, or the equivalent of army provincial HQ including CMA, LFCA, JTFC) but also at CFB Borden (Recruiting Zone HQ) and in Quebec City (national army headquarters, then FMC HQ). His work covered diverse roles (trainee, instructor, staff officer, leader/mentor/coach) across a range of functions (recruiting, personnel management, information systems management, public affairs, operations/emergency management, and civil/military cooperation (CIMIC)). He helped manage many domestic operations and exercises, deployed to several, and deployed to Afghanistan as a CIMIC Officer (Roto 0, 2003/04).

After retirement, Mark continued his service with the Royal Canadian Legion (Wilson Branch 527, and provincial Operational Stress Injury program),  tirelessly advocating for all who serve or have served this great nation.

Mark's passions included hockey: playing (as goalie), coaching others, or simply watching his favourite game and team (the Leafs!). Mark also loved dogs, his constant companions throughout his adult life. He left behind three "terriorists" as he affectionately referred to them: Dolly, Chester, and George, now all thankfully in new loving homes.

Mark was principled. He was fiercely loyal to his team, family, friends, (and dogs), always putting the needs of others ahead of his own. He could light up a room with his smile and energy, and he was known for his wry sense of humour. A devoted father, son, brother, friend, and soldier, Mark will be remembered and missed by many.

Funeral details: 11 am, Saturday, 12 September 2026 at St. Jude’s (Wexford) Anglican Church, 10 Howarth Avenue, Scarborough.

Reception/Visitation to follow, starting at 1 pm, Saturday, 12 September 2026 at Armour Heights Officers’ Mess, on the grounds of Canadian Forces College, 215 Yonge Boulevard, North York, Ontario (government photo ID required due to security requirements of the defence facility).
