Paul Simard

Paul Simard is a certified death doula, officiant, and grief guide, and the founder of The Canoe, a bilingual grief-support and end-of-life practice based in Montreal. Over nearly three decades, his work has moved from boardrooms and non-profits to the bedside — drawn there by personal loss and a conviction that we have lost touch with how to face mortality. He believes that death belongs to the living, and that grief is not a problem to be managed but a passage to be honored. At Cleo, Paul leads aftercare and grief support, helping families reclaim the ritual, intimacy, and meaning that death deserves, and offering a steady, compassionate presence in the days and months that follow.
