In loving memory of
Curtis Alan Cowley
November 28, 1959 – October 28, 2026
It is with great sadness that the Cowley family announces the passing of Curtis Alan Cowley, 66, on October 28, 2026 at St. Michael's Hospital after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
A beloved husband, father and brother, Curtis is survived by his wife, Cindy; his children, Lauren, Darelle (Nick) and Patrick; and his sister, Vivianne, and will be dearly missed by family dogs Daisy and Pepper.
Professionally, Curtis leaves his distinct mark on the Toronto stagehand community as a respected colleague, mentor and friend. A long-standing member of IATSE Local 58, Curtis' recent years were spent as head of props at Roy Thomson Hall, following a four-decade career as theatrical carpenter for various touring and sit-down productions, working under Mirvish, Tomcat, Livent and the National Ballet of Canada, among others.
Curtis was a private man. An accomplished musician, he loved to disappear for hours to solo jam on his guitars. Early morning weekend horseback rides brought him a sense of peaceful well-being and he also enjoyed the solitude of heading out on his motorcycle. A perfect afternoon was had basking in the sunshine by the backyard swimming pool or at the family cottage on the shore of Lake Simcoe. His best days, however, were spent lending a hand to friends and family in whatever ways he could.
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations made to St. Michael's Hospital for their excellent care and wonderful staff, who were so incredibly kind and supportive to both Curtis and family during his short stay in the ICU. There will be a celebration of Curtis' life announced at a later date for spring 2027.
